I am a general surgeon from Peru. Here we are on the fifth day of quarantine. We have 269 cases and 4 deaths so far. I want to know how they are handling the issue of laparoscopic surgery, there is a lot of talk here about going back to open surgery in the emergency room because health personnel do not have personal protective equipment and there is much fear of aerosolization. Is it advisable to do open surgery if we do not have PPE? I understand that the anesthetist can be infected at the time of intubation if he does not have PPE, our operating rooms do have a negative pressure aspiration system, but we do not have PPE, only N95 masks and our conventional clothes to operate. I would be very grateful if you give me a suggestion to transmit it in Peru.
