Summer 2020 is seeing continuous global spread of COVID-19 without a warm weather lull that many had hoped for based on patterns of seasonal influenza. Health care capacity is being tested in some US states with record outbreaks, and while vulnerable populations continue to get infected and have poor outcomes, more of the spread is being fueled by infection in younger age groups than was seen previously. Countries are still grappling with how to responsibly open schools and society in graded fashion.
