  • AI precision medicine mining finds 13 human COVID-19 risk genes

    8 May, 2020

Data scientists have used an AI enabled precision medicine platform to identify high risk genes for COVID-19, along with drug candidates for increasing survival rates.

The scientists from UK-headquartered AI precision medicine company, PrecisionLife, have used the platform to identify 13 high risk genes for COVID-19, and 59 repurposing drug candidates that could be used to develop new therapeutic strategies to increase the survival rate of patients who develop seps...
  • The groundbreaking way to search lungs for signs of Covid-19

    7 May, 2020
When Covid-19 was at its height in China, doctors in the city of Wuhan were able to use artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms to scan the lungs of thousands of patients

The algorithm in question, developed by Axial AI, analyses CT imagery in seconds. It declares, for example, whether a patient has a high risk of viral pneumonia from coronavirus or not. A consortium of firms developed the AI in response to the coronavirus outbreak. They say it can show whether a patient's...
  • UK starts testing coronavirus contact tracing app

    5 May, 2020

The UK government launched its first test of a coronavirus contact tracing app Monday on a small island off the south coast of England.

Using bluetooth technology, the app will alert users if they have been near someone who has tested positive for the virus. The app, which was developed by the digital technology unit of the National Health Service (NHS), will also upload information to a central database to help public health experts study the behavior of the virus.

  • When will the coronavirus pandemic end? | Predictive Monitoring of COVID-19

    4 May, 2020

When will the coronavirus pandemic end?

Data scientists have attempted to answer this question. Their predictions use a mathematical model known as SIR (susceptible - infected - recovered), which calculates the spread and recovery of diseases.

Researchers from Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD) fed the model data on confirmed infections, tests conducted, and deaths recorded, to estimate the life cycle of COVID-19.

    Globally, their ...

  • Twitter opens up data for researchers to study COVID-19 tweets

    4 May, 2020
Twitter Inc will grant researchers and software developers access to a real-time data stream of tens of millions of daily public tweets about COVID-19, which they can use to study the spread of the disease or track misinformation, the company said in a blog post on Wednesday.Clcik here for reference

  • Leveraging AI to hunt for potential treatments: a COVID-19 example

    1 May, 2020

Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning get a lot of attention these days. Machine Learning (ML) is a mathematical technique that uses empirical data to generate an algorithm that can predict or make decisions on new data. But the old adage of “garbage-in, garbage-out” especially applies in ML, so it is important to understand the data that is used to generate these models, and thoroughly question the answers the models give us. In general, ML should be used to narrow decision making...
  • Show evidence that apps for COVID-19 contact-tracing are secure and effective

    30 Apr, 2020
Governments see coronavirus apps as key to releasing lockdowns. In exchange for people’s health data, they must promise to work together to develop the highest standards of safety and efficacy.
Like any health-care intervention, coronavirus apps need to conform to the highest standards of safety and efficacy. And yet, despite the pandemic’s global nature, countries are developing apps independently, and there are no global standards — which is rightly raising concerns.

  • Mobile phone data for informing public health actions across the COVID-19 pandemic life cycle

    28 Apr, 2020

There is little coordination or information exchange between national or regional initiatives. Although ad hoc mechanisms leveraging mobile phone data can be effectively (but not easily) developed at the local or national level, regional or even global collaborations seem to be much more difficult given the number of actors, the range of interests and priorities, the variety of legislations concerned, and the need to protect civil liberties. The global scale and spread of the COVID-19 pan...
  • Bluetooth could help to track COVID-19 spread

    27 Apr, 2020
Using Bluetooth signals to tell you if you’ve been put at risk of covid-19 is the cornerstone of contact tracing apps. But doing it well is a complex and challenging task—even for the experts.
You might know Bluetooth best for helping you pair your headphones and smartphone, but the 21-year-old wireless technology is getting a new wave of attention now that it’s at the heart of contact-tracing apps designed to show whether you might have been exposed to the novel coronavirus.
